Pumpkin is back!
It’s officially fall, which means that pumpkin is back in a big way! In the past ten years pumpkin foods, or maybe I should say pumpkin spice flavored foods, have risen dramatically! So why do we continue to go crazy for them? I believe that the flavors and smells of fall spices makes us feel cozy and stir up nostalgia.
For our family, eating certain pumpkin products each fall has become a tradition. Trader Joe’s is our go to place for fall grocery shopping, due to it’s enormous selection of pumpkin and pumpkin spice foods. Over the past few years, based on my family’s feedback, I have narrowed it down to what we feel are the 5 best Trader Joe’s pumpkin products for families. It is based on taste, child appeal, and ease to prepare.
I am not being sponsored for this post in any way. Just sharing my love for this store and products with you! No Trader Joe’s near you? Get it delivered to your home (although much more expensive, but worth it) via the links below.
5 best Trader Joe’s pumpkin products for families
- Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Pancake and Waffle Mix – This is what started the pumpkin craze in our family. We had these pancakes at the grandparents’ house one chilly fall morning a few years ago and from that day on, it is not fall without a few weekends of pumpkin pancakes for breakfast. It is an explosion of fall in your mouth. The flavor of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg are there, but it is not too overpowering to turn off kids. There are no artificial flavors or preservatives and the texture is great. You only need 3 ingredients in addition to the mix, which makes it super easy for the kids to help make them. We also make these on Thanksgiving morning before we watch the parade on TV together. It is a hearty breakfast that can hold us over til our mid-afternoon Thanksgiving dinner. I have only made pancakes from the mix, but I am sure waffles with this mix are just as delicious!
- Trader Joe’s Country Pumpkin Spice Granola – Our family just tried this product for the first time this year and wow, was it a hit! We mostly used it as a snack since it has 15 grams of sugar per serving. It has a lot of
thick clusters so it is easy to pick up and snack on. It consists of a mix of whole grain oats, honey, pumpkin, raisins, coconut, and cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg spices. My kids and I are not huge coconut fans, but it was a mild flavoring and didn’t bother any of us. Our favorite ways to snack on this- as a yogurt topping, just plain, or in a bowl of milk.
Trader Joe’s Harvest Blend Complete Salad – Okay this one might be more for the moms and dads, unless your children eat salad and in that case you’ll definitely want to check this out. Our boys don’t like salad, but my husband and I do, and since we make up half of the family, I am including it in this list 🙂 This salad is not only super simple to prepare (open the bag and dump), it is DELICIOUS and healthy! It is packed with baby kale and spinach, shredded broccoli and cauliflower, dates and raisins, plus pumpkin seeds and pumpkin croutons for the crunch factor. It even comes with a bag of sweet and tangy pumpkin vinaigrette. We made it into a meal with TJ’s butternut squash soup. Quintessential fall meal!
- Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Joe Joe’s Cookies – Enough of that healthy salad stuff, let’s talk about these cookies! These ridiculously good and ridiculously addictive sandwich filled cookies, consist of pumpkin cookies and pumpkin cream filling. Confession: Cookies are my weakness and “our family” ate an entire box in a day and a half. Warning: If you are on a diet, stay far away from this irresistible treat!
- Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix – This is hands down the BEST tasting pumpkin bread you can get from a mix. It is fluffy, moist and incredibly easy to make. It is perfect for busy moms! I may or may not have passed it off for homemade on numerous occasions. No judging! Try it with mix-ins like nuts, shredded carrots or zuchinni, cranberries, chocolate chips, etc.
I hope that list will help you and your family discovered some new pumpkin favorites and begin some delicious fall food traditions!
